3D Imaging in Huntsville, AL

3D dental imaging is a powerful diagnostic tool that allows oral surgeons to view the teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures with incredible clarity and precision. Unlike traditional two-dimensional dental x-rays, the 3D imaging technology we use at Huntsville Oral Surgery & Dental Implants captures high-definition views that provide more detailed and accurate information. These scans are especially helpful when planning for procedures like dental implants, tooth extractions, and bone grafting, where understanding depth, spacing, and anatomical relationships is essential. If you've been referred for endodontic care or are looking for more advanced treatments for dental decay or facial trauma, schedule a consultation with Dr. S. Clint Hudson and our team in Huntsville, AL to learn how we utilize 3D dental imaging to provide a higher level of precision and comfort.

3D imaging is a quick, noninvasive process that takes place while you sit or stand in position. Our advanced dental scanner will rotate around your head in a full circle, capturing detailed images of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures in less than a minute. There are no sensors or uncomfortable bitewings to deal with. Once the scan is complete, the high-definition 3D dental images will be compiled into a single file, which Dr. Hudson will review with you to plan your treatment. You'll be able to see what he sees and better understand what's happening in your mouth and jaw before any procedure begins.

I was referred to Doctor Hudson by my dentist. My appointment was set quickly 2 days. Dr Hudson met with me for molar extraction. They handled my insurance and gave me the breakdown that day by email. He scheduled the procedure within two days I was sedated and extraction took 30 minutes . Staff were professional and friendly. I will use him if needed in the future.

I hardly write reviews for places but I would love to say that if you need your wisdom teeth out and you’re an anxious person, this is the place to go. The doctor was extremely nice and answered all of my questions and even prescribed me medication to take before the procedure so I could feel relaxed when I came in. When I walked into my room today the nurse was very sweet and walked me through the steps as she attached the monitors and iv. If you’re afraid of needles, I promise you the iv insertion did not hurt at all! It was just a very slight pinch. If you’ve never been put under before and you need to get your wisdom teeth removed, this is the place to do it! Thank you guys so much for your kindness!

Nearly every patient can benefit from 3D imaging. It is an ideal diagnostic tool for anyone considering dental implants, as it allows Dr. Hudson to assess bone density and precisely plan implant placement. Patients in need of wisdom tooth extractions, complex root canal therapy, or treatment for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are also excellent candidates. Additionally, if you have experienced facial trauma or have undiagnosed pain, a 3D scan can provide the detailed insights needed for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. Because the process is quick, painless, and involves a low dose of radiation, it is a safe and valuable tool for a wide range of oral surgery needs.

How much radiation do 3D dental imaging studies expose you to?

3D dental imaging uses significantly less radiation than a traditional medical CT scan and other types of imaging studies. Our team uses the lowest dose necessary to obtain clear, diagnostic images that guide your treatment. We always consider your safety first and only recommend imaging when it is truly beneficial.

Can you keep your jewelry on during 3D imaging?

In most cases, facial or oral jewelry must be removed because metal can create shadows or distortions in the scan. Jewelry located far from the head and neck may not need to be taken off, but we will let you know what applies in your situation. Removing metal ensures that your images are as clear and accurate as possible. Our team will guide you through what needs to be removed before the scan begins.

Is 3D imaging safe for kids?

When clinically appropriate, 3D dental imaging is considered safe for children, especially with the low-dose technology used in modern equipment. The scan is quick, painless, and designed to minimize exposure while capturing detailed information. We use strict pediatric safety protocols and only recommend 3D imaging when it provides important diagnostic benefits. Our team will review the reasoning with you so you feel confident in the decision.

Clear information leads to better care. That's why we use 3D dental imaging as a standard part of diagnosis and treatment planning at Huntsville Oral Surgery & Dental Implants. Whether you're preparing for surgery or seeking answers about a specific concern, Dr. Hudson and our team use this advanced technology to help you see exactly what we see — and to build a plan you can feel confident in.
